HOW WE TREAT OTHERS....BULLYING.
When I went to school we knew it as picking on or making fun of someone else. It didn't seem like any big problem. Our parents told us "Sticks and stones will hurt your bones, but names will never hurt you!" How wrong they were. Names do hurt, they hurt emotionally and it may be the one thing that "breaks the camel's back" when someone suffers ridicule and embarrassment at the expense of other. It is now known as "Bullying" and is a serious problem in the schools across the country and other countries and has resulted in suicides and multiple shootings so that it is no longer safe for our children to go to schools without worries that someone is going to go on a shooting spree. Perhaps the problem can be blamed on parents for not bringing their children up with the right morals to be accountable for their actions, but by the time a child reaches school age, they know it is wrong to make fun of someone else whether their parent tells them or not. Parents are given too much blame for their children's actions. We all want to fit in and be accepted but if it is at the expense of making fun of someone else, then are not being the person you should be. If making fun of someone is the only way that they will let you be their friend, then maybe you need to consider what the friendship is costing you. Be yourself, not what someone wants you to be, not someone who isn't respected or one who causes emotional trauma to a fellow person. Being part of a clique isn't what's important in life, being a decent person is. We must take responsibility for our actions and it starts now. WORDS HURT.
Words Hurtby Linda J. Stilson
Some words hurt like daggers;
They cut to the bone.
Self esteem damaged;
One feels so alone.
Once they are spoken
The damage is done
All for amusement
Some one thought was for fun.
Think first when you speak
How your words will be taken.
Consider the impact
Your words will be making.
Dont judge one another
By how one may look.
Not like your judging
The cover of a book.
Its what we have inside
That really should count.
Not how we look
Or a dollar amount.
God created us all different
Like the colors of a rainbow in the sky.
Not so we would criticize or humiliate,
And not for us to make someone cry.
We do not know the reasons why
Things are the way they are.
But we do know wrong from right
And to love one another with all our might.
